Letter from the Founders

Why was the Patriot Pledge started?

Like many of you, we keep asking ourselves two questions. First, how many nights in a row can we watch the news, shake our heads in disgust and then do nothing about it the next morning? And second, how are we going to explain to our children and grandchildren that we didn’t have the time, the courage or the leadership to fight to preserve a country full of opportunity for them? Washington is counting on our being too distracted, complacent and disengaged. Let’s prove them wrong. Surely, if 90 million of us can update our facebook status regarding what we had for breakfast, it stands to reason we can use technology to unite 12 million of us to fix Congress.

This is not a partisan issue and the Patriot Pledge is not a partisan solution. It doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat, Republican or Independent. We’ve let powerful special interests hijack our government and we’ve elected “bought and paid for” political pawns seeking a lifetime within the political machine in both parties. The very term “career politician” should be an oxymoron and politics should be restored to being a “service”, not a “career”. We have a systemic issue requiring a systemic solution. Republicans and Democrats are equally guilty of abusing the trust we’ve placed in them. We need a Washington full of passionate, principled patriots who seek to “serve” their country.

85% of Americans believe in the Patriot Pledge principals, yet the will of the people is being ignored by career politicians in Washington. If you agree with the Patriot Pledge, sign the Voter Pledge below. As importantly, send it to every concerned voter you know encouraging them to join us as we re-shape American politics from the bottom up and email your congressional candidates requesting they sign the Patriot Pledge in order to earn your vote. The Patriot Pledge will only work if we each take the Voter Pledge and share it with everyone we know. United we can force the changes we want.

We will be keeping a tally of Voter Members by district and letting the candidates know how many votes are at stake. Our goal is to have 12 - 15 million voters sign the Voter Pledge nationwide. Once this goal has been reached, the vast majority of candidates will be required to sign the Patriot Pledge to win. Together, through the power of our collective votes we will put passionate, principled patriots in office and forge a set of common sense “rules of the road”.

I pledge to vote in all federal Congressional races held in my district and, when afforded the opportunity, to only vote for candidates who have signed the Patriot Pledge.
